The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations. It is dedicated to developing a balanced and accessible international intellectual property (IP) system, which rewards creativity, stimulates innovation and contributes to economic development while safeguarding the public interest.

During our international phase of the patent application process, we submit an international patent application under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). Based on this PCT application, an authorized International Searching Authority (ISA) performs a search to find the most relevant prior art documents regarding the claimed subject matter. The results of the search are published with the PCT application, and these results are used to determine whether to proceed with patent applications at the national level (and if so, in which countries). Eighteen (18) months after the filing date or the priority date, the international application is published by the International Bureau at the WIPO.

At thirty (30) months from the filing date of the international application or from the earliest priority date of the application if a priority is claimed, the international phase ends and the international application enters in national and regional phase. During the national and regional phase of the patent application process, we submit applications in countries in which patent protection would benefit the competitiveness of our products based on the technologies being patented.
