FlowGuidance™

Inducing river-like flow hydraulics to safely direct migrating fish

Overview

The  FlowGuidance™ system is a flow velocity enhancement system that provides natural-like river flows to attract and provide cues to guide migrating fish away from hazards and toward safe migration routes. The FlowGuidance™ system can also be used to divert debris away from water intakes and other in-water structures such as safety barriers.

Benefits

Safe & Effective
The FlowGuidancesystem provides fish guidance through a directed fish safe water flow that can energetically assist downstream migrating fish. In addition, the direction and structure of the turbulent flow eddies are recognized by upstream migrating fish guiding them toward safe fish passage routes.

Economical

The FlowGuidance™ is a cost-effective guidance system that does not require large physical structures such as screens and nets, but may also be used in tandem with them to reduce maintenance and cleaning. It is adaptable to most river barrier situations regardless of existing facility age or structural design.

Environmental
The FlowGuidancesystem enhances the dynamic nature of the ecosystem by supporting effective, timely migration through directed venturi hydraulic flows. It provides fish direction in slack-water areas at dams reducing passage delays and for the corresponding devastating predation that can occur in such scenarios.

Features

How It Works

FlowGuidance™ is a proprietary venturi like system that generates water currents similar to those occurring in naturally. The difference is you can control the velocity , direction, and depth of these currents to solicit a natural behavioral response from the fish in the area. A small volume of water at high pressure is injected into a larger-diameter underwater pipe.

The FlowGuidance™ enhances the velocity of water by using a pump to inject a small volume of water at high pressure into a much larger-diameter underwater eductor resulting in the acceleration of larger volumes of water at lower velocity. A centrifugal pump provides the motive water into the eductor which is available in a variety of sizes. The eductor is pre-mounted on a submergible frame producing a plume of directed nature-like flow which extends and radiates as a cone from the eductor outlet.
