PassagePortal™
Model L

The ultimate fish friendly fish passage solution

Overview

The PassagePortal™ (Model L) is a revolutionary fish passage system that allows fish to migrate upstream in a safe, efficient, and selective way. The system uses differential air pressure, artificial intelligence, and modular components to pass fish over high-head dams, weirs, and other barriers.

Benefits

Versatile and adaptable to different fish species, a wide range of fish sizes and passage needs

The system has an adjustable ASP Fishway that attracts fish to the entry point, and two BurstBuster™ sizes that connect to five different sized MigratorTubes™.

Provides detailed data and high-definition image collection on every fish

The PassagePortal™ Model L has advanced sensors and cameras that allow it to identify the fish species, count, size (length and girth), wild or hatchery, tagged or injured (and in the future, male or female). This data and more is automatically recorded and transmitted to a designated storage database, where it can be accessed and analyzed by fisheries managers and researchers at any time. This provides valuable information on the fish population dynamics, migration patterns and behavior, and health, which can inform the conservation and management strategies for the fish.

Rapid and effective in passing fish over long distances and heights

The system uses differential air pressure to propel fish through misted tubes more than 700’ high and 1100’ long.

Selective and non-invasive when monitoring and sorting fish

The system uses a real-time, AI-enabled FishLRecognition™ system that scans, identifies,

and reports fish data without handling them. The system can also divert unwanted fish to a bypass chute.

Safe and healthy for fish and the environment

The system minimizes stress and injury to fish by reducing handling. The system also has a low environmental footprint and easy installation with skid frame structures.

More power plant production and higher survival

Given that the PassagePortal™ Model L relies on air rather than hydraulics to provide fish passage, up to 10% more of the river water can be allocated for power production rather than fish passage, which will have a direct impact on your ROI.

How It Works

1. ASP Fishway™

Fish are attracted to the system by the adjustable ASPFishway™, which adjusts its depth, angle, and flow to optimize fish entry. Fish swim into the Fishway™ of their own volition.

2. FishFaucet™

The FishFaucet™ produces 2 CFS of water that flows in one direction, toward the ASPFishway™. The fish naturally swim over the apex of the FishFaucet™. Once they cross the apex, the flow is reduced and their forward momentum carries them down a short gravity slide into and through opening of the FishlRecognition™ system.

3. FishlRecognition™

The FishlRecognition™ system uses three 4k optical cameras and three infrared cameras, and in combination with AI, algorithms, and automated computations, measures length and girth, identifies fish species, and records relevant fish data, such as hatchery v wild, all in milliseconds. The proprietary and highly efficient real time operating system can process the images and data such that a sorting decision is made by the computer just as the fish exit the system using the criteria that the fisheries managers have pre-selected. Desired fish are selected and directed to the appropriate BurstBuster™ and MigratorTube™ combination; while unwanted fish, such as invasive species, can be removed or diverted to a separate bypass chute and returned to the river.

4. GateKeeper™

The pneumatically controlled gates that receive signals from the FishlRecognition™ software allow fish passage and/or divert fish to the appropriate channel for passage or transport.

5. BurstBuster™

Fish are propelled by differential air pressure into and through the misted MigratorTubes™, which are lightly misted to control internal tube temperature, lubrication, and fish health.

6. MigratorTubes™

The MigratorTube(s)™ enable the fish to glide over barriers of various heights and distances, with optional Booster systems to increase the range.

7. DiveGuide™

Fish are released at the desired destination, where they can continue their migration or spawning journey without the need for recovery, thereby accelerating their migration to safer waters and spawning grounds.
