Overview

The RescueRouter™ is commonly used for fish-handling activities such as: fish rescue, fish transfer, fish removal, fish celebrations/festivals, and training demonstrations. The RescueRouter™ is a versatile mobile system that uses the SalmonCannon™ technology to transport fish in an efficient and safe manner. The system consists of trailer-mounted auxiliary equipment, a flexible MigratorTube™, and a stand-mounted accelerator that feeds fish into the tube. The system can be deployed in various terrains and conditions, making rescue without risk possible.

Minimizes fish handling

The RescueRouter™ reduces the need for multiple handling steps that can cause additional stress, injury or mortality to fish, especially those that are already in a weakened condition. The fish are only handled once, when they are fed into the accelerator, and then they are transported directly to the desired recovery location.

The RescueRouter™ requires fewer personnel and resources than conventional handling and transfer methods such as nets, pumps, or buckets. The system can transport up to 60 fish per-minute, depending on the size and species, and can operate continuously for hours. The system can also be set up and taken down quickly and easily, allowing for rapid response to emergency or emerging situations.

How It Works

As a rescue solution, adaptive and versatile fish transport routing is a must. The RescueRouter™ works by applying differential air pressure to propel fish through the attachable MigratorTube™, which is temporarily hung from a cable supported by site features. The cable is hung employing temporary, opportunistic site features like trees, railings, and I-beam drop cables as support structures for fish transport routing. The MigratorTube™ is hung from the cable via carabiners and connected directly to the SalmonCannon™. Four-inch air hoses connect the SalmonCannon™ to the auxiliary equipment on the trailer, which is connected to local power and water. Fish are manually fed into the SalmonCannon™. The fish glide through the tube with minimal friction or additional stress, and exit at the desired destination, such as a holding tank, a truck, or another body of water.

SalmonCannon™

The original SalmonCannon™ was developed a decade ago, specifically for live fish transfer operations for aquaculture, hatchery operations, and studies where the fish are already being handled, but where transfer is difficult, dangerous, or inefficient. The SalmonCannon™ comes in two sizes, and is made of lightweight materials for easy handling by one person. Loaded by hand, the gentle but efficient transport assures fewer injuries to both fish and personnel during transfer operations.

MigratorTube™

Flexible, durable, continuous extrusions with misting ports embedded in the tube hanger assures low- stress, low-pressure passage on a moist cushion of air, regardless of height. The proprietary blend of materials is unlike any other tube that has been produced before. After five years of research and development, and another five years of rigorous studies and real-world deployments, we are confident in saying that there is not a safer way for a fish to pass any obstacle.

Trailer

The trailer provides easy transport for the system and is designed to be utilized at the installation site.
