  • FISH INNOVATION NETWORK

FIN

Founded by Whooshh, FIN (fish innovation network) is a cross-section of companies, NGOs, tribal entities, academia and other like-minded organizations. All are united around creating and using technology for the good of the planet – before it’s too late for some species.

Migratory fish are impacted by global warming; and clean power generation and water conservation are both part of what can help mitigate the impacts of a changing climate.

Whooshh Innovations is a company that creates solutions for migratory fish, and does so using systems that can also benefit increased carbon-free power generation and water conservation.

This Network is about collaboration, implementing smart solutions, and changing attitudes. If you believe in what we’re doing, we want to know about you. Explore the sections below to see how you can best participate as part of FIN.

tribes and first nations

Long before climate change began to affect ecosystems and long before man began adapting rivers to meet agricultural and power generation needs, rivers teemed with salmon and other native fish species making their migratory journeys through pristine rivers. Indigenous peoples once sustained themselves on this bounty, only to see those keystone salmon stocks diminish as development progressed.

In sharing the goal of returning stocks to their historic levels, Whooshh Innovations seeks to work with tribal organizations toward the common goal of restoration. Technology has advanced to where it can now allow for the restoration of native runs despite the impacts of climate change and the presence of in-river barriers.

Whooshh believes in collaboration and seeks partners to promote or finance fish recovery projects, navigate regulatory frameworks and carry out policy advocacy – all toward the goal of reversing the decline in migratory species.

hydro innovators

hydropower innovation

The hydropower industry has been a stable source of clean, carbon-free energy for generations. While other forms of clean energy have emerged, few have performed with the consistency and reliability of hydropower, a steady stalwart providing electricity in tandem with the constant flow of water.

As with any industry, hydropower has begun to adapt to market and climate conditions. Whooshh and its innovation collaborators seek to accelerate growth and progress in hydropower equipment, systems, designs and practices. From upgraded fish passage to efficient turbines to system optimization, Whooshh and its Fish Innovation Network members work to accelerate the pace of change and modernization that will help mitigate the impacts of climate change, and return hydropower to the forefront of renewable energy planning.

Whooshh Innovations seeks to work with smart, forward-thinking organizations who recognize the benefits of competing in the renewable marketplace. We work with the best and brightest to help harness more water, save more fish and generate more clean power for a better world.

fisheries managers

fisheries management

Many areas of fisheries management involve inexact science. Estimates and extrapolations often form the basis for important fisheries decisions. Innovation is needed to produce better data, make informed decisions and turn the tide of declining fish stocks.

Whooshh seeks to work with fisheries managers toward the common goal of restoration. While climate change and other obstacles have caused difficulty for migratory species, technology has also advanced to where it can bring several benefits to fisheries. We need partners to continue evolving the needs and processes that bring about game-changing developments that can allow for the restoration of fish species around the globe.

Whooshh believes in collaboration and seeks fisheries management partners to promote recovery projects, share and develop data, and carry out studies – all toward the goal of reversing the decline in migratory species.

corporate renewables

corporate innovators

As a developer of game-changing technology, Whooshh Innovations seeks to collaborate with like-minded companies that are continually pushing the boundaries of what is possible. Whether finding creative ways to source new clean energy or machine learning to enable positive change, Whooshh believes collaboration takes us farther than simply going it alone.

Are you a progressive company that embraces innovation? Whooshh Innovations seeks to work with smart, forward-thinking organizations who recognize the benefits of doing things differently. We work with the best and brightest to help harness more water, save more fish and generate more clean power for a better world.

engineers

engineering firms

Engineers solve problems. Innovators bring ideas to life. Engineers that embrace innovation are a powerful combination toward bringing about positive change in the world.

As a developer of game-changing technology, Whooshh Innovations seeks to work with like-minded engineering firms that are continually pushing the boundaries of what is possible. Whether finding creative ways to source new clean energy or developing new software letting the biology and physiology of fish species drive design, Whooshh believes collaboration takes us farther than simply going it alone.

Are you a progressive engineering firm that embraces innovation?  Do you bristle at the thought of doing something simply because that’s the way it’s always been done? Do you thrive on bringing creative solutions to your clients? Whooshh Innovations seeks to collaborate with smart, forward-thinking organizations who recognize the benefits of doing things differently.

NGO'S

conservation innovators

Man’s manipulation of river systems has had a detrimental effect on migratory fish species. Similarly, factors such as climate change and invasive species introduction have affected ecosystems, adding to the impact. Where rivers formerly teemed with salmon and other native fish species making their migratory journeys, numbers have continued to decline to levels approaching the unsustainable. Today, there are many conservation groups and NGOs who are making significant efforts to swing the pendulum back toward prior levels.

Technology has advanced to where it can now be an asset in conjunction with the many conservation efforts being made. In sharing the goal of returning stocks to their historic levels, Whooshh Innovations seeks to work with NGOs and conservation organizations toward the common goal of restoration.

Are you working on river basin restoration projects? Involved in fish passage efforts? Working to gather effective data for conservation studies? Whooshh believes in cooperation and seeks collaborators to promote fish recovery projects, navigate regulatory frameworks, carry out policy advocacy and engage in community fundraising and outreach events– all toward the goal of reversing the impacts that man and climate change have had on migratory species.

anglers

anglers

Anglers know and respect the beauty of migratory fish and the journey they go through. Where rivers formerly teemed with salmon and other native fish species making their migratory journeys, climate change and other obstacles have caused runs to decline to levels approaching the unsustainable. Today, there are many angler groups and fish enthusiasts who stand behind efforts to restore fish populations back toward the abundant numbers that once populated the world’s rivers.

In sharing the goal of returning stocks to their historic levels, Whooshh Innovations seeks to work with anglers toward the common goal of restoration. Data is an important part of fisheries decisions and technology can now be an asset in conjunction with the many conservation efforts being made.

academia

academic innovators

As our migratory fish runs reach a critical point, it is vital that we look to innovation and technology to combat issues that threaten the future of our riverways and oceans.

Whooshh Innovations seeks to partner with academia for two very important reasons: to help educate the leaders of tomorrow, and to spur innovation to solve the problems we face today.

We seek to collaborate with cutting-edge research institutes in fast-growing and high-impact arenas like engineering, fisheries, and the environment.  Students can be involved in exciting work, both on and off campus, through fellowships, use of equipment, access to data, and more.

Are you involved in research programs that advance fisheries biology? Clean energy? AI and machine learning? Are you interested in exposing students to next-level fisheries technology and practices?  Do you want your program to turn out forward-thinking experts? We work with the best and brightest to help harness more water, save more fish and generate more clean power for a better world.
